Cryptocoryne crispatula var. 'tonkinensis' is a distinct and striking cultivar of Cryptocoryne crispatula, native to the rivers and streams of Vietnam. This variety is known for its narrow, elongated, and wavy leaves, which can range in color from light green to reddish-brown depending on the growing conditions and light intensity. The plant’s leaves often have a slightly ruffled margin, giving it a unique, textured appearance. The rhizome of this plant spreads slowly and forms dense clusters of rosettes that can grow up to 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) tall, making it suitable for midground or background placement in aquariums. Due to its moderate growth rate and visually appealing, undulating foliage, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. 'tonkinensis' is an excellent choice for aquascapes that require a midground plant with a softer, natural look and can complement other crypts or plants with contrasting textures and colors.
